Movies

Welcome to the SATBack movies page

You'll find links to most of my recent movies here, which have mostly been shot over the last 12 months. I've also released the movies on a DVD, which is available up on request.

To view the movies on this page, you'll need either:

Due to the limitations of video compression technology, both formats degrade the overall video and audio quality of the movies. To try and minimise these effects, most of the movies on this page are encoded using a fairly high encoding rate (1Mb/s). The downside to this is that the movie files are all quite large, ranging from a few mega bytes to many tens of mega bytes; you'll need a broadband connection...

Test Movie

If you are unsure whether your system supports either of these formats, you may wish to download one of the following short test movies first. They are available in both QuickTime and Windows Video Media formats. In general, the Microsoft format provides slightly better quality, so you may wish to try this format first.

London Eye Time Lapse

Continuing my interest in time lapse cinematography, and following an idea I had last summer, this short film gives a north/south view from the London Eye. The filming was done in October 2003 (the day after the Soxan 2nd Birthday Party in fact), but I've only recently (March 2004) managed to finish editing it. The film shows two sychronised views looking north and south and runs at 16 times real time.

Huge thanks go to my friend Adam Garstone, who helped make this project possible - he filmed the south view and provided invaluable editing advice.

Soxan 2nd Birthday Party

Its taken a while to get this one together, but is now as finished as it's ever going to be, so here it is. It was shot at the Soxan 2nd birthday party on the 4th October 2003, by Justin (Getafixx), Mauritius (Dr. Mo) and me (SATBack).

Big Chill 2003

Work is now complete on my new Big Chill 2003 video, so I figured I should get it up here for people to see. All the footage was shot at this year's festival and I've cut the movie to be a diary of the three days. The movie starts on Thursday evening and runs through to Sunday evening.

My thanks go out to everyone involved in the video and especially to Dr. Mo for sorting out various editing and rendering problems.
